The Fawcett Library was originally established as the Library of the London Society for Women's Service, which was
a non-militant organization led by Millicent Fawcett. In 1953 the society and its library were renamed after her. The
Fawcett Library was run by the Fawcett Society until 1977, when it moved to its present location at London Guildhall
University. The library is now run by seven paid staff members, mostly parttime working, and six volunteers. The
collection of the library concerns all aspects of women in society, with both contemporary and historical coverage.

Feminist Archive North houses a collection of grassroots material from the British women's liberation movement. It
was established to collect and preserve the herstory of women's organizing and activism. Although the focus of the
collection is 1969-1979, there is an extensive collection of contemporary material from women's groups, conferences
and events on a local, national and international scale. The material ranges from newsletters and conference papers to
badges and posters, from a wide variety of women's organizations. An oral history project was initiated in 1994: by
means of interviews, women's memories are recorded and thereby preserved.

WITEC is an European network of organizations and individuals aimed at motivating, increasing the participation of
and supporting women in science, engineering and technology. It recently launched a database of women experts, to
be consulted on Internet. The aim of this database is to increase the number and participation of women in decision
making positions on expert advisory committees and in working groups, and to facilitate the development of specialist
forums and networks of women experts across Europe. It is also a good contact point for media seeking consultants,
experienced researchers or industrialists.

The Hypatia Trust is a charitable trust supported by personal donations, membership subscriptions and grant funding.
It was created to collect and make available published and personal documentation about the achievements of women
in every aspect of their lives. Central to the trust's activities are the care and development of the Hypatia Collection on
the History of Women, a collection of more than 15.000 books, papers and printed memorabilia, ranging from letters
and literature to 18th century magazines, cookbooks and a picture archive. Currently the collection is housed both at
the University of Exeter Library (www.ex.ac.uk/ijtilsed/lib/libintro) and the Jamieson Library in Newsmill, Penzance.
The trust is busy building a permanent home called Hypatia House. Languages: English, Spanish, French, German.

Exists to ensure more women are appointed to public bodies. Public bodies are committees such as regional health
authorities, transport commiettes, consumer watchdogs, the Arts Council and Regional Arts Associations, the Sports
Council, industrial tribunals. Some of them control very large budgets. Their decisions affect the daily lives of the
population, including the 59% who are women. WIPL has collected and analyzed the curricular vitae of 700 women; is
lobbying nominating bodies, like the Public Appointment Unit, the Confederation of British Indsutry, the Trade Unions
Congress to encourage them to put women forward; is training women with appropriate qualities but without
appropriate experience; is examining the criteria for appointment; and is monitoring what happens to nominations when
they are sent in; is monitoring how women fare when they are appointed.

Global List of Women's Organisations
Terms of Use:
I don't want to be too strict about this, since the whole point of compiling
this list was to provide a free resource for women's organisations all over the
world. Nevertheless, I do expect people to use this resource in a respectful and
helpful way, so here are a few conditions.
NO SPAMMING!!!!! Do not, for any reason whatsoever, just grab all the e-mail or
snail mail addresses from this list and send out unsolicited mail, no matter how
good your cause is. If you want to contact various organisations, make sure they
are interested in your information. Address your mail individually. I know it's
more work, but ultimately, it will be more rewarding. You'll have a chance to
get to know the individuals with whom you're corresponding, which is actually
one of the main goals of this list.
You have my express permission to make electronic or hard copies of the list or
any part of it for the following: to share the information with other women or
women's organisations; to distribute the information among your networks; to use
the list to contact these organisations; for research; etc. Basically, any use
of the list which supports women's networking, empowerment of women, networking
among women and women's organisations, support for individual women or women's
organisations, etc., is just fine with me.
You absolutely do not have my permission to use the list in any way, shape, or
form for any of the following: sending unsolicited mail to the e-mail or snail
mail addresses on the list; harassing, threatening, or in any other way
annoying, bothering, or inconveniencing the people and organisations on the
list; using the information on this list to in any way hinder the goals of
empowerment of women, feminist movements, and global networking and support
among women's organisations; for the detriment of any individual woman or group
of women or women's organisation, etc.
If you make a copy of the list or any part of the list, for any purpose, I
request that you include my name, e-mail address and snail mail address on the
copy, with a note stating that any additions, corrections, or deletions can be
sent to me. I want to make the list as complete and accurate as possible, and
the only way to do that is to make sure that everyone knows where to send their
information. The addresses and that note are at the bottom of every page, so
it's easy to include.
This last point isn't really a term of use, but just a request. If you have
found this list of organisations helpful in any way, or if you are at all
pleased about having this resource available, please write to let me know! I am
still looking for funding to make the list into a searchable database, and all
the good words and support from you will go a long way to making that possible,
thus creating a more useful resource for all of us.
