The Christina Institute for Women's Studies was founded in 1991 as a separate institute within the Faculty of Arts at
the University of Helsinki. The Christina Institute promotes women's studies, coordinates and administers relevant
instruction, encourages women's studies by providing premises and equipment for researchers, maintains contacts with
other institutes for women's studies, and distributes information on women's studies.

The basic objectives of the Women's League of the Coalition Party is the same as that of the party: to strengthen
Finland's independence and to secure and develop a democratic political and legal system based on freedom and
security of the individual. The special task of the Women's League is to promote women's position in society and
encourage women to seek political and decision-making positions. The Women's League also participates in projects
concerning peace and developing countries.

The Institute for Women's Studies was the first centre of its sort in Finland. It is an interdisciplinary unit of research
and education, and offers information services. The institute houses a library, mostly used by students and researchers

The programme in Women's Studies aims at an interdisciplinary approach in its teaching and research. In addition, it
strives to give students a broad knowledge of, and a familiarity with feminist methodology and theory. The programme
focuses upon Nordic or Scandinavian women, both from a historical perspective and during the present period. The
fields of research are both in cultural and social studies. Women's Studies is a minor subject at ÅAU and the UT.

I don't want to be too strict about this, since the whole point of compiling this list was to provide a free resource for women's organisations all over the world. Nevertheless, I do expect people to use this resource in a respectful and helpful way, so here are a few conditions.

NO SPAMMING!!!!! Do not, for any reason whatsoever, just grab all the e-mail or snail mail addresses from this list and send out unsolicited mail, no matter how good your cause is. If you want to contact various organisations, make sure they are interested in your information. Address your mail individually. I know it's more work, but ultimately, it will be more rewarding. You'll have a chance to get to know the individuals with whom you're corresponding, which is actually one of the main goals of this list.

You have my express permission to make electronic or hard copies of the list or any part of it for the following: to share the information with other women or women's organisations; to distribute the information among your networks; to use the list to contact these organisations; for research; etc. Basically, any use of the list which supports women's networking, empowerment of women, networking among women and women's organisations, support for individual women or women's organisations, etc., is just fine with me.
