Gender policy:
The overriding goal of Swedish equality policy is to ensure that women and men enjoy equal rights, obligations and opportunities in all areas of society. Traditionally, gender equality issues have been the concern of women. Very few men have been involved in work to achieve equality. However, if equality is to become a reality in all areas of society, a genuine desire for change and active participation on the part of both women and men are called for.
That is why the role of men in efforts to achieve equality has
had high priority in Swedish equality policy for some years now. In addition to highlighting the issue in political forums, the Government has granted funds to a variety of projects about men and the family and ways to encourage men to move into professions dominated by women. Funds have also been allocated to information campaigns to encourage and facilitate for men to take longer periods of parental leave.

This fact sheet was produced by the Division for Gender Equality at the Ministry of Industry, Employment and Communications.
